MARYSEGARS BOOKS

Dear Daddy

I want to thank you for helping me to be the woman I am now because I wanted to marry a man just like you. A man who loved unconditionally yet you expected nothing but the best from me. Thank you for displaying what a real man should look like. No, you were not perfect, but you were authentic!

I can remembered how you “interviewed” my boyfriend (now my husband of 50 years) about his intentions he had of me. You shared with him that you had great plans for me and that my future was bright. It was your plans for me to attend college and get my degree but yet he wanted to marry me.  I loved and admired my Dad and I loved my boyfriend. Yes I was young but I knew how I felt and it was real.

I want to thank you Daddy for the following things you taught me:

  • You demonstrated the Word of God to me as well as quoted the Word of God to me.
  • Your word is your bond. In other words, let your “yes” be yes and your “no” means no.
  • You told me that God hates a liar and so did you. I also hate a liar so you taught me to be a truth teller, even if it hurts.
  • Pay your bills before the due date. I recall you had me fill out the money order, address the envelope, put the stamp on it and mail it.
  • You told me that I will work at GM Headquarters and I did.
  • After you retired, you would pick up my daughters from school and I would pick them up after I got off work.
  • You were always ready to listen to me and will offer counsel only if I asked for it.
  • You were firm but yet tender hearted. You only spanked me once in my life and it seemed like it hurt you more than it hurt me.
  • You were very logical and sensible. You were a great man and an excellent father.

I want to say “I Love You” forever. I know you’re in Heaven looking down and I want you to be proud of me. Rest on in Heaven with Mama.
